No Military Presence at Polling Stations – Ghana Armed Forces
Ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections happening on December 7th, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has issued a press statement reaffirming its commitment to peaceful and transparent electoral processes. The statement, signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, emphasized that no military personnel would be stationed at any polling station during the elections.
The GAF clarified that election security remains the primary responsibility of the Ghana Police Service (GPS), with military involvement limited to standby support. Military personnel will only be deployed if requested by the police to ensure law and order. This approach underscores the collaborative efforts between security agencies to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The statement also urged citizens to report any unauthorized individuals posing as military personnel or wearing military-patterned attire at polling stations. Reports can be made to the nearest police station or via the GPS toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311.

The Armed Forces encouraged all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel, and refrain from actions that could disrupt the peace. It reiterated its commitment to maintaining national stability and protecting the credibility of the elections.
