Former National President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Yiadom Boakye YB, has called on members of TESCON to stay united and committed to the party’s rebuilding agenda ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking at the TESCON Freshers Orientation and Swearing-in Ceremony held at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Boakye emphasized that unity remains the party’s strongest weapon in reclaiming power.

“If we remain united in our rebuilding and restructuring efforts, victory in 2028 is achievable,” he said, urging all party faithful to realign their focus toward the grassroots.

Boakye encouraged TESCON members and the broader party leadership to revisit the successful strategies that won them the 2016 and 2020 elections. He advised the introduction of new, innovative tactics to complement the old ones, with particular attention on grassroots mobilization rather than social media popularity.

“The job is on the ground,” he stated. “Let’s focus on touching base with the people, not chasing online fame.”

He also proposed a series of reforms to strengthen TESCON structures on campuses. Among them were regular general meetings to foster unity, resourcing TESCON branches to carry out effective activities, and ensuring that elections within TESCON are fair and transparent.

Boakye further recommended a shift from electronic voting to manual voting systems to build trust and transparency among student members. He emphasized the importance of allowing students to elect leaders based on competence and not due to affiliations with political “godfathers.”

“This is the time to reform TESCON across institutions, empower them with resources, and focus on electing leaders who truly have the capacity to work,” he stressed.
