In a resounding victory, Ghana’s Joshua Opey has been elected as the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) following the 2024 CYC Executive Elections. Opey secured 24 votes, surpassing the quota of 23.5, with a surplus of 0.5 votes, cementing his place as the next leader of the Commonwealth’s largest youth body. His election marks a significant step forward for youth leadership and advocacy across the Commonwealth.

The election, which saw strong competition, featured notable candidates such as Timothy Kadaga, who garnered 16 votes, and Faye Nimoh, who received 4. Other candidates, including Daniel Obal, Victor Okello, and Mwesigye Thomas, each secured 1 vote. Despite the competitive field, Opey’s overwhelming support and strong track record in youth advocacy helped him secure the leadership position.
