We Will Scrap The E-Levy and Betting Tax Without Doubt
Casiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) commitment to abolish the E-Levy and betting tax during their first budget.
In an exclusive interview, Ato Forson described the recent election results as a “people’s revolution,” emphasizing that Ghanaians have clearly demanded a significant change from the political establishment. “The status quo cannot be maintained going forward,” he stated, adding that the NDC’s policies will be guided by the voices of the citizens.

When questioned about the feasibility of scrapping taxes such as the E-Levy and betting tax amidst Ghana’s challenging economic conditions, Ato Forson remained resolute. He assured Ghanaians that these “draconian taxes” would be eliminated.
“The first budget of the NDC will scrap the E-Levy without a doubt. These two taxes will go,” Ato Forson declared confidently, stressing that the party has no intention of reneging on its commitments.
A Clear Vision from the NDC
According to Ato Forson, the promise to scrap these taxes aligns with the NDC’s broader vision of addressing the economic burdens ordinary citizens face. He highlighted that the first 120 days of an NDC administration, led by President John Mahama, would set the tone for transformative policies.

“His Excellency the President was emphatic. This is a solemn promise to the people of Ghana, and we are not running away from it,” he reiterated.
Parliamentary Gains Reflect Public Sentiment
Discussing the NDC’s parliamentary performance, Ato Forson expressed satisfaction with the results, noting that the party’s projections had been conservative.
“Our research pointed to something in the region of 160 to 169 seats, but we pegged it at about 150. Today, we have an overwhelming majority with 106 confirmed seats, which could rise to 188,” he said, attributing the results to the will of the people.
