MY GENERATION HAVE FAILED YOU. – Sir Sam Jonah.

MY GENERATION HAVE FAILED YOU. - Sir Sam Jonah.

I listened to Sir Sam Jonah when he delivered a sterling speech at the graduation ceremony at Morgan State University in the USA. To me, it is one of the best speeches I have heard in recent times.

I was happy he encouraged the students to take up their own lives into their own hands and mold them into the way they want to be. His admission on the fact that his generation has failed us this current generation was one I felt he could have admitted largely and not left it to only famines, war, and what is happening in Palestine as Israel has struck them.

Sir, unfortunately, forgot to add that his generation has failed to tell us the real truth about life. He also failed to tell us that his generation has failed to call out various errors clouded in corruption. His generation made corruption look normal and now the whole world will come at you if you fight corruption. His generation made us believe that it is indeed normal to pay bribes just to get some basic needs in life. They made it so easy for the rich always to become rich and the poor grow poorer as days go by. They let us also know that there could be no vacancy at government work and further encouraged us to create our jobs when they cheaply and quietly employed their biological children and associates into the government sector. Even when we listened to them and created our jobs too they ensured high taxes and tough economic systems killed our businesses. They ended up making us criminals in suits and named us as fraudsters. They made us believe that we could use the pen to add more zeros and inflate the prices of projects just to milk the country dry. Hmmmm.

Sam Jonah’s generation failed us all when they created a country where its politicians and policymakers are all about their interests and not the interests of all. Why am I not surprised to see children learn under trees and on top of it have to carry their chairs to school and back in some parts of Oti and Northern Ghana yet there is a massive improvement in educational infrastructure in the Southern part of Ghana. It is all about their interest. They made us believe also that a teacher does not have to do one job to be rich, so today, teachers are doing other jobs aside from teaching their students just so they will be rich. Their generation indeed has failed us.

They made us believe that if I was NPP, then my brother in NDC, was my greatest enemy. They virtually divided us to rule us no wonder today Ghanaians are finding it difficult to trust who can rule Ghana in the next elections. Parliament now unites when it is about their salary but divides when it is a pertinent issue on the economy that will affect the average person.

They technically siphoned and drained every bit of patriotism in us and for that matter, no one feels comfortable representing Ghana on the world stage. Our talents have naturalized for other countries because the old generation has failed us by sitting on the monies designated for these persons who compete on the world stage for Ghana.

When the current generation says that “Ghana is a crime scene” I do not doubt them because the old generation will tell you “We have chewed the meat to the bone” but go ahead and throw money on young girls in the name of belonging to a particular party thinking not about the person who starved to death a while ago. This same old generation made us believe that because of Covid and the Russia-Ukraine war, our economy is on the brink yet they get enough money to spend on useless affairs.

Did I hear also that they made us believe that sharing money during elections is for transportation and not to influence votes.? Are we not even shamed at this?

Permit me to end here but to say that Sir Sam Jonah could have added all these grievous sins they have done us current generation to his speech rather than limit it to famine and wars. I fear and I shake when I foresee the future ahead of us because there is a greater likelihood that my generation will also fail these Gen Z and Gen Alpha generations because of the grievous sins rooted in greed perpetuated in crimes yet presented to us as the right thing by Sam Jonah’s generation.

We killed people for less. Sad.

You have indeed failed us!!
