Court Discharges 7 Democracy Hub Protesters

In a significant legal development, the prosecution has dropped all charges against seven protesters from the #StopGalamseyNow movement: Kingsley, Seth, Vera, Nii Quaye, Manuel Biney, Joseph, and Ernest Frimpong. This decision is a relief to the activists, who were facing various charges related to their demonstrations against illegal mining practices.

The #StopGalamseyNow movement has garnered widespread attention for its advocacy for protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices. The protesters were arrested during a demonstration aimed at raising awareness about the detrimental effects of illegal mining on local communities and ecosystems.

When the case was called, the prosecution led by State Attorney Amanda Awadi told the court that the Republic had decided to discontinue the matter against seven protesters.

She further noted that a new charge sheet would be filed against the remaining two accused persons in that set. The case has since been adjourned to November 21.
