Dreamat Foundation Donates Over 300 Sanitary Pads to Girls at Ummul Qura Islamic School

The Dreamat Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering young girls by donating over 300 sanitary pads to students at Ummul Qura Islamic School, Oforikrom Islamic Call. The foundation also took time to educate the girls on menstrual hygiene, proper sanitary pad usage, and the importance of breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Speaking to DTC OfficialGh, the founder of Dreamat Foundation, Nimat Ibrahim, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all donors who supported the initiative. She acknowledged that such contributions play a significant role in keeping girls in school, boosting their confidence, and promoting menstrual health. However, she also voiced her concern about the sustainability of these donations, noting that a more structured and long-term solution is needed.

Addressing the broader issue of period poverty, Nimat Ibrahim urged President John Mahama to expedite the process of providing free sanitary pads to schoolgirls, a promise he made during his election campaign.
“I hope that the president will be quick in implementing his free sanitary pad policy program as he promised during his campaign, it is the only sustainable solution to period poverty” – Nimat lamented.

She emphasized that while charitable efforts like those of Dreamat Foundation help in the short term, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure menstrual health equity for all young girls in Ghana.

She also added her voice to the period-free advocacy movement, calling for sanitary pads to be tax free just like condoms.
The Reality of Period Poverty in Ghana
Statistics show that 1 in 10 girls in Africa misses school due to a lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. In Ghana, many girls resort to unsafe alternatives, such as cloth rags, newspapers, or even leaves, increasing their risk of infections. This challenge not only affects their education but also their mental and physical well-being.
Dreamat Foundation’s initiative at Ummul Qura Islamic School highlights the urgent need for government intervention in tackling this issue at a national level.
Moving Forward: How You Can Help
While awaiting government action, Dreamat Foundation continues to seek support from individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to sustain this initiative. Anyone willing to support can:
