We Will Set a Standard No Government Can Reverse” – President Mahama Vows

President John Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to stabilizing Ghana’s economy and restoring public trust in governance, declaring that his leadership will set an irreversible standard for future governments, regardless of political affiliation.

Speaking on his administration’s first five months in office, the President emphasized that effective leadership—not just isolated policies, is key to turning the economy around. His remarks came in response to a question about specific measures taken to strengthen the Cedi, to which he stated:
It’s not about just one policy,it’s about effective leadership. With the right leadership, we can turn this economy around. That’s my commitment.

Since taking office on January 7, President Mahama said his government has prioritized alleviating the high cost of living, cutting wasteful expenditure, and introducing strict accountability measures to combat corruption.
Every step we’ve taken is meant to restore faith in our democracy and prove that Ghana can be governed differently—and better,” he said.

Highlighting progress made so far, the President noted that stabilizing the economy and reducing hardship remain top priorities, alongside enforcing codes of conduct for public officials to ensure ethical governance. “We’ve fast-tracked these efforts because Ghanaians deserve relief now, not later,” he added.

Looking ahead, President Mahama pledged that his administration’s reforms will be so deeply rooted that no future government, regardless of party, could undo them.
By the end of our term, we will set a standard in governance that cannot be reversed. The gains we make in restoring confidence in our democracy must last,” he vowed.
