Mastering Your Mind: 8 Steps to Overcome Negative Thoughts and Embrace a Fulfilling New Year

Guard your mind against worry, for it serves no purpose. There’s nothing in this world that can trouble you more than your own negative thoughts. With these words echoing wisdom, Dr. Evans Duah leads us into a transformative journey as we step into a new year. His eight-step guide unveils invaluable insights to shield your mind from the shadows of worry and negativity, empowering you to navigate challenges with resilience and grace.
Let’s embark on this path together, embracing mental empowerment and a refreshed outlook for a fulfilling year ahead.
1. Note this, often the problem is rarely the problem. Most issues stem from your thoughts (99%), with only 1% caused by actual events. Most of the time, the problem isn’t the problem but the way you think about the problem is. The key, therefore, is that your perception of the problem often matters more than the problem itself.
2. Most people often reject ideas or the opportunities – even before they have a good look at them because they simply don’t feel capable or qualified enough or simply think they don’t deserve such. Avoid self-reflection. Embrace self-confidence. Apply for opportunities, come out with your works. What if they don’t reply me or I’m not selected? Still send it anyway. You are 100% out if you don’t apply then. Resist overthinking and avoid rejecting yourself.

3. Did you know most problems aren’t solved with more thinking? They are, in fact, solved with less. Understand that some problems need extra time to come back to it is important. Some problems need a break from thinking. Allow some time and can back refreshed to solve it. Whenever, you get to the point where you can’t solve a problem, stop trying to. Give it some breather and come back to it later.
5. You can’t worry for a better future. You can’t overthink your way to a brighter future. What you have today is NOW. It’s here, now and today, and what you do with NOW can make right of your past and make good of your future. Make peace with yesterday, let go of tomorrow, grab hold of now.
6. Do you know your brain reflects your faith, fears, convictions, insecurities, beliefs and worries as thoughts in the form of imaginations and scenarios? So, it’s crucial to always fact-check your own thoughts before accepting them. Or else, your emotions will have the better of you because in highly emotional situations, your thoughts will tell you stories that aren’t true. Please fact-check yourself always with data, facts, and reality.
No amount of anxiety will change your future, and no amount of regret will change your past. Acceptance is peace.

7. You need to grab this: No amount of anxiety will change your future, and no amount of regret will change your past. Acceptance is peace. Know you are imperfect striving for excellence and perfection. Know life is full of uncertainties, some things are within your control and others are out. You may not understand everything that happens to you and even why sometimes you go through some ordeals knowing your good heart but that’s reality. Even bad things happen to good people. That’s why you need to have your trust and faith solidly grounded in God.

8. All good health starts in the mind. It doesn’t matter the number of times you go to the gym, eat healthy, exercise, drink water and take vitamins, but if you don’t directly confront the negativity in your thoughts, you will never truly be healthy. True health is measured by the quality of our thoughts and the peacefulness of our mind. Health starts in your mind. Engage your mind well.
